The Beginning
It all started in February 1st, 2019, the day Boy Scouts became Scouts BSA, the day anyone could join. I heard of this news and my mom asked me if I would want to join, now at the time I was in a different program that shall not be named, when she asked I broke down in tears and said I didn't want to leave my friends, what I didn't know at the time that year on July 30th, 2019, I would become one of the founding members of Troop 26G.
In mid-June 2019 my mom and I were at a recruiting event for the program I was in at the time, we were the booth next to the Cub Scout pack and Boys troop that my brothers are in, and the pack had decided to allow girls, or become "A family pack". My mom started to think more about where those girls would go once they cross over, and at the time the program I was apart of was no longer teaching me the things I want to learn, at the end of the recruiting event I got in the car, and thought to myself that I didn't like the program and where the troop I was apart of was going. Funny enough my parents on the car ride home where talking about starting a girls troop, but they were hesitant about bring it to the parents of the boys troop as a lot of us were against it a few months prior as we did not understand what it meant to be a "Linked troop". Later on that month in June we had decided to leave the program I was in for many different reasons, that night my mom got a text from the Cub Master at the time saying there were some families interested in a girls troop, but the Cub Master sent it to my mom instead of another leader and she called my mom right away to apologize for sending the text to her, that night my mom and her spent hours on the phone talking about it and how she'd actually been praying and thinking about it. July 1st was the committee meeting they discussed it and they took a vote and only 1 was against! July 30th, 2019 the parents meeting and the final decision was obviously as I'm writing this blog, it was to create one! Now the hard part, getting enough members, choosing the colors of our neckerchief, and of course paperwork, lots and lots of paperwork, and finally August 16, 2019 we were officially a troop! I was so happy, I finally could live out the dream I had as a little girl that I had given up on so long ago, I would finally be able to join my brothers in the honor that is being a a scout and eventually in the near future a Eagle scout, I would be able to learn all the skills I had longed to, our first meeting we planned our first ever campout but that's a story for another time.
